Personal Property Appraisals

While it may be entertaining to wonder what your valuables are worth, there are practical reasons to have your treasured items valued by a qualified and professional personal property appraiser. Your insurance company may require proof of the existence, the condition, and the replacement value of your antiques or silver collection. Your charitable “gift” donation of over $5000 will require evidence to verify the value if you wish to claim it as a deduction. An appraisal may also be necessary for the equitable distribution of property in order to settle an estate or divorce. When the time comes that you need a qualified personal property appraiser, the professionals at Castle Business Solutions have the experience to research and provide an opinion of value that is credible and unbiased. All Castle Business Solution personal property appraisals are Uniform Standards of Professional Appraisal Practice (USPAP), and as such, are IRS compliant.

What Is A Personal Property Appraisal?

A Personal Property Appraisal is a comprehensive report that gives an opinion of the value for any sort of property at a given point in time and for an intended use.

What Would Be Considered Personal Property?

Personal property is defined as anything one owns which is not a permanent part of your real property. For a home, this could include furniture, jewelry, artwork, antiques, appliances, kitchen contents, clothes, carpets, drapes, computer and electronic equipment, clocks, mirrors, linens, garden equipment, tools, sporting goods, and any other item of value. For a business or church, an asset inventory would include furniture and fixtures, equipment and any other item of value other than merchandise (retail stock) held for commercial resale.

What Types Of Personal Property Do You Appraise?

We specialize in appraising general personal property items such as furniture, decorative items, pottery, porcelain, silver, and some types of business and industrial equipment. If items need to be included in the assignment that are beyond the scope of our ability, we will enlist a specialist appraiser.

Why Would I Need An Appraisal Service?

There are many reasons a client would seek an appraisal. Some of the more common reasons are to determine the value of items for insurance purposes, for equitable distribution of property for estates or divorce purposes, and for tax-deductible donations. Our appraisals comply with Uniform Standards of Professional Appraisal Practice (USPAP) and IRS regulations.

How Long Does A Personal Property Appraisal Take?

The length of time it takes to complete a Personal Property Appraisal assignment depends on the complexity of the job. Most appraisal reports can be delivered within a few weeks. On the other hand, a complex appraisal assignment may take several months. During our initial meeting in your home or business, we will thoroughly explain the entire appraisal process and answer all your questions.

What About Privacy?

Castle Business Solutions, Inc., understands your concern about confidentiality and privacy, and we assure you that these are among our highest business principles. As a client of Castle Business Solutions your records will be kept protected and secure.

How Much Do Your Services Cost?

Appraisals are provided at an hourly rate. Fees represent the steps taken to best determine an opinion of value. These steps include inspecting and photographing each item, research, value analysis, and preparation of the appraisal report. To insure a fair and objective appraisal of our client’s property, we will not charge a percentage of the property value for an appraisal. In addition, we do not buy any items or estates that we appraise.

Forensic Accounting

Is Your Business... Vulnurable To Actively Preventing Completely Ignoring Already Encountering Fraud?

As the economy struggles to find its foothold, many businesses, as well as individuals, are facing the greatest financial concerns in recent memory. Protecting valuable and increasingly scarce resources has become a monumental test. The many conditions brought by a turbulent economy are factors which often lead to fraud. A risk analysis or fraud examination conducted by an ACFE Certified Fraud Examiner (CFE), can highlight weaknesses in your business and recommendations for a proactive fraud deterrence program. A strong fraud prevention program helps increase the confidence investors, regulators, employees and the general public have in the integrity of your business.

Is A Fraud Prevention Check-Up Right For You?

  • It is an affordable, easy-to-use way to identify gaps in your company’s fraud prevention processes.
  • By identifying risks early, you have a chance to fix the problem before losing money and becoming a victim of fraud.
  • It is a great opportunity to establish a relationship with a Certified Fraud Examiner (CFE) whom you can call when fraud questions arise.
  • Since the risk of fraud can be reduced but is rarely eliminated, it is likely your company will experience fraud in future and will need a CFE’s assistance.
  • Strong fraud prevention processes bolster the confidence investors, regulators, your employees and the general public have in the integrity of your company’s reports, which will help you attract and retain not only capital but qualified and dedicated employees.

The Association of Certified Fraud Examiners’ (ACFE) 2014 Global Fraud Study revealed that the typical organization loses a median of 5% of revenues each year due to fraud. On a global scale, this translates to losses of approximately $3.7 trillion, according to anti-fraud experts.

According to the ACFE, the median loss caused by fraud was $145,000, with 22% of those cases reporting losses of at least $1 million. Identity theft and cybercrime—especially credit card abuse—were among some of the most common sources of fraud in small businesses.
